Hector was born and raised in the Bronx, of New York City. As a child he watched practice sessions and performances in the streets and clubs. He was always fascinated and influenced by the multi-rhythm creations and by the percussionist, of many great Latino Groups and Artists. Giovanni Hidalgo, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Ralph Irizarry, Alex Acuna and many more are some of the artist who influenced his style. Hector credits Armando Parraza and Doc Gibbs for showing him techniques on the bongos and shakere during practice sessions.

His father, Hector Sr., was also a musician, singer, and percussionist with The Romantic Trio Fajardeno’. Hector’s cousin, Efrain Vidal Maldonado, today is one of Puerto Rico’s top quartro, quinto guitar players.

At The Ohio State University, he performed as the percussionist for the Jazz Ensemble with composer/conductor Vince Mendoza. While in Columbus, Ohio, he also performed with Jazz Legend Rusty Bryant, Hank Marr and other “All Star” musicians. In addition to performing with UJC, Hector performs many clinics and is a studio musician for commercials.
